7G Homework: A Hero on a Hero’s Journey (Harry Potter).

Harry Potter on his Hero’s Journey

I know Ms.Townshend said not to do Harry Potter but I can’t resist talking about it. This is actually my first post about Harry Potter. I figured since she said no one should do it, I figured I will be the only one who does it. Back on topic, this video is for the first movie of the eight movies. Even though there is 8 movies, some people might just think each movie has bits of the Hero’s Journey but they are wrong. This one movie contains The Ordinary World, Refusal of the call, Mentor, Crossing the first threshold, Test, allies and enemies, Approach to the inmost cave, The supreme ordeal, Reward, and The road back. The ordinary world for Harry Potter is living with his step-family the Dursleys. They have forced him to  living in a cupboard under the stairs. One day all these letters come to there house, on the front saying “Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy”, even though at first Harry doubts the letters, and wonders where they came from he knows he has to go there, no matter what(call to adventure). Mr.Dursley seemed to know this was going to happen, and doesn’t let Harry touch any of the letters. They move to this rock/island. On his birthday this huge man comes through the door. His name is Hagrid, Harry’s mentor. He tells Harry the truth about his parents, shows him around Diagon Alley (a place in the magic world), and gets all the supplies he needs for Hogwarts. Then finally he reaches Hogwarts  (crossing the first threshold). To be more exact he actually runs through Platform 9 3/4 to enter the magical world. Then he meets his allies/friends: Hermione and Ron and his enemies Draco and Snape. The three friends notice something suspicious about Snape and Quirrel (both teachers). They find out something secret or important is somewhere they have forbidden to go to, they are not sure what they have to do, but they know  that this unknown thing can ruin Hogwarts. (Approach to the inmost cave). They must go through different places to reach The supreme ordeal. Like playing Wizard’s Chess and passing a huge three-headed dog. Finally reaching The supreme ordeal he must battle Quirrel, disguised as Voldemort. The top secret, was Voldemort trying to steal the Philosopher’s Stone, so he can have an extended life. They battle it out until Harry blacks out. Later Dumbledore (Head Master at Hogwarts) congrats Harry of saving the Philosopher’s Stone which was heavily guarded, but somehow Voldemort still got to it. The reward for Harry is the bragging rights of him saving the Philosopher’s Stone, and saving Hogwarts and The Wizarding World from Voldemort . The road back for Harry is just staying with the horrible Dursleys for the summer. The Resurrection in this movie for Harry is even though he must return to the boring/ordinary world he gain strength and knowledge. He found the truth for the questions that have been bothering him for his whole life. He finally founds out where he belongs and finally made real friends.Even though he got attacked by Voldemort, he knows what he has to do and changed into a real HERO.
